Forth Chicago Favorites: High Fives for Health / by Clare Johnson

We're springing forward this weekend which means there's one more hour of sunlight and a handful of new places to explore. We've taken you on a wild (and delicious!) sweets ride the last couple of weeks and truly, who can blame us?! With sweets, baked goods and coffee treats covered, we're switching gears to another way to treat yourself. Today, our Forth Faves Map is all about health and happiness. All of the locations below come highly recommended by our healthy and inspiring Forth community. Whether you're located north, south or west - there's a spot for everyone on this map!

1. Harvest Juicery – 1012 W. Lake St. Chicago 60607

Forth Approved by Lisa Guillot

Are you a raw juice enthusiast? If so, this juicery comes highly recommended by our very own Forth founder. The carrot, beet, ginger is Lisa's favorite.

2. The Plant – 1400 W. 46th St. Chicago 60609

Forth Approved by Cheryl Munoz

Cheryl is our resident sustainable food system liaison and she highly recommends The Plant.  "Incubator of sustainable food businesses and a waste stream model for the future."

3. Dill Pickle Co-op – 3039 W. Fullerton Ave. Chicago 60647

Forth Approved by Cheryl Munoz

Dill Pickle is Chicago’s only food co-op as of now. Cheryl describes their work as "incredible!" Co-ops are getting a foothold in the Chicago region because of their success and support. And speaking of amazing co-ops, who's ready for the grand opening of Cheryl's co-op, the Sugar Beet Co-op?! We certainly are!

4. Supreme Beauty Parlor – 4665 N. Manor Ave. Chicago 60625

Forth Approved by Johanna Winter Harper

"I recently cut my hair short and so I have to go to the hairdressers a lot more. This tiny gem of a salon is right off the Francisco brown line stop. All vintage 50’s decor, two lovely pups, and a sweet-as-can-be owner, Christina, who used to work at a salon in Logan Square. She’s down to earth, fun, and gives stellar hair cuts (and I’m picky)."

5. Logan Square Farmers Market – 3147 W. Logan Blvd. Chicago 60647

Forth Approved by Michelle Marchisotta and Jamie Davis

Treat yourself to an afternoon on the square and visit the highly recommended Logan Square Farmers Market. The Market brings together the best farmers in the area and to add to it's delight, it also houses an impressive array of small food vendors.  Michelle filled us in on her particular favorites: "I love the cheese and my cheese monger, Brian, from Stamper Cheese and for veggies, my favorite is Iron Creek."

6. Oak Park Farmers Market – 123 Madison St, Oak Park, IL 60302

Forth Approved by Molly Rudberg and Cheryl Munoz

Oak Park Famers' Market has "fresh everything" in Cheryl's eyes.  "Bluegrass band, fresh donuts and local farmers. Saturday morning ritual." I guess OPFM is the place to go for donut delights. Molly, too, recommends the "legendary hot donuts."

7. Infinite Touch of Chicago – 231 E. 79th St. Chicago 60619

Forth Approved by Krystyn Johnson

"A totally unassuming, no frills massage “parlor” in the straight hood!. But don’t let the South Side location keep you away from this gem…Kimm gives the absolute best massages and her rates are ridiculously reasonable."

8. Bee Love – 3726 W Flournoy St. Chicago 60624

Forth Approved by Cheryl Munoz

Save the bees! Bee Love is a project of the North Lawndale Employment Network and this “buzzing” business supports bee populations through their product line that doubles as a job incubator for people in need.

9. Inspiration Kitchen – 3504 West Lake St. Chicago 60624 (East Garfield Park) & 4715 N. Sheridan Rd. Chicago 60640 (Uptown)

Forth Approved by Cheryl Munoz & Clare Johnson

Cheryl and I both recommend a visit to Inspiration Kitchen. "Social justice, job training and delicious food in one beautiful restaurant."

10. Chicago Raw – 131 North Clinton Street #7 Chicago 60661

Forth Approved by Sarah Aulie

Chicago Raw is Sarah's new favorite!  "The owners are two lovely women whose skin glow. I like their Collard Salad with Raw Sauerkraut (no really, it’s actually good) for lunch. Their raw muffins and raw granola are a treat. And if you want to try an amazing chocolate dessert made with avocado, dates and raw chocolate, try Polly’s Brownie."

11. One Body Pilates Studio – 811 West Evergreen Ave. #400A Chicago 60642

Forth Approved by Sarah Aulie

In the mood for some Pilates? One Body frequently offers deals on Groupon and if you visit, Sarah recommends taking a class with Nicki. "She is trained by the third descendent trainer of Joseph Pilates himself! So I think in the Pilates world, that’s a big deal."

12. Green Exchange ARBOR Restaurant – 2545 W Diversey Pkwy. Chicago 60647

Forth Approved by Jamie Davis

Jamie, of Greenhouse Loft, spoke of this soon-to-be restaurant in her 4xForth interview. The ARBOR, located in Green Exchange, is set to open this winter. "For now it’s in the version of a coffee cart in the lobby.  They're are making custom parfaits, butters, jams, eggs and veggies from the garden and chickens in back."

13. Tula Yoga Studio – 2827 West Belden Ave. Chicago 60647

Forth Approved by Shannon Colon

Direct quote: "Because I do more than just eat!" :)

14. Garfield Park Conservatory – 300 North Central Park Ave. Chicago 60624

Forth Approved by Janelle Gonyea

Chicago is supposed to get into the 40's this weekend. Treat yourself to a sunny afternoon walk in the beautiful conservatory and breathe in spring!

15. Namaskar Yoga – 3946 North Southport Ave. Chicago 60613

Forth Approved by Sarah Drake

"This yoga studio has been my favorite for years- completely unassuming, with classes ranging from easy to challenging. I’ve met some great teachers here!"
