4xForth: Sharon Burdett of Strand Design by Clare Johnson

As is ritual on Fridays here at the Forth blog, we’re highlighting one of the inspiring women from our community in our 4xForth blog series. This week, we're highlighting Sharon Burdett of Strand Design. Together with her husband, Sharon and Ted Burdett run a beautifully unique design studio, creating objects from sustainably sourced and locally manufactured materials. Their work is impeccable and charming, just like Sharon.

We were fortunate enough to hear about Sharon's work, life and passion at our summer salon and today, she's sharing her insight on many of Chicago's best dishes, hot-spots and more.

4xForth: Shannon Colon by Natalie Pavela

Each Friday we’re highlighting one of the lovely women in our community by learning about her favorite Chicago places and restaurants, hearing what websites she’s all jazzed about, and gaining some inspiration from destinations she’s dreaming of traveling to next.

It’s 4 x Forth Friday and today we’re talking to Shannon Colon!

Places I frequent in Chicago:

1. Jeni's Ice Cream - Stop everything you're doing now and go. 2. Boiler Room - The purist pizza has my heart. 3. Tula Yoga Studio - Because I do more than just eat. 4. New Wave - My office.

Places I’ll go someday:

1. Machu Picchu 2. The Blue Lagoon in Iceland 3. Everywhere in New Zealand 4. Rome

Best bites in Chicago:

1. Southport Grocery - Everything. 2. Longman & Eagle - I mean... 3. Scofflaw - Incredible cocktails and free cookies at midnight. Does that count? 4. Cumin - Yes.

Sites I lurve:

1. Peculiar Bliss - Illustration magic. 2. Designspiration - A little bit of everything. 3. Pitchfork - You can never have enough music in your life. 4. The Great Discontent - Incredible stories on creativity and risk.

Thanks for sharing your pics, Shannon! I'm a fellow Jeni's devotee and I also love the Scofflaw crew for whipping up a free batch of cookies each night. And I have a friend who swears by David's 10:30am Sunday vinyasa class at Tula.

Shannon's an independent graphic designer, focusing on branding and all things digital. Check out her website and find her on Twitter and Instagram!
